Waiting for the Pen to Take Me Somewhere

Still just drawing!! I have to start somewhere and this seems to be like a good place. I have decided to draw as many random drawings as it takes, to get me to where I want to go. With every drawing I see some shape or idea that could lead to something, but as a whole this is still just a doodle.
Many more to come...this is a process.

Benefit Event and a Catwalk

My dear friend Reagan got his photograph into the calendar that was being sold at the Aids benefit event last night at the Fortress of the Arts last night. There is nothing like pasties on the catwalk, and a burlesque show to spice up an aids benefit event.

The traveling Sketch book!!!

My friend Rachel and I have been exchanging sketchbooks via snail mail for about 8-9 months now. We each have a sketch book that we send back and forth to each other, leaving room for alterations and deductions. Even though most of what I make in it is ridiculous I enjoy the exchange of ideas and the process of it. I enjoy it so much that I want to start a traveling sketch book apart from the one Rachel and I are doing, that will travel to anyone who wants to be apart of it.
If you are interested in being involved in this project, or want to add a sketch book into the rotation please e-mail me at snyder.ruthe7@gmail.com. The only commitment required is that you send it to the next person in the rotation. Sending things "book rate" cuts on the cost!! It is not as corny as it sounds!!! You won't get bad luck if you don't rotate the sketchbook to the next person and it is much more relax than you think. (I think I have had Rachel's sketchbook for over a month now and I am still putting off going to the post office!!)

So, I guess I eventually have to say something about my life now. I recently moved to Philadelphia where I have; successfully put off graduate school for a year, mastered the art of sarcasm and fake smiles at my bill paying job, and I am just now finding myself through pen and collage.
I have yet to make any completed work that I am proud of, but I have made a lot of bad artwork that I am proud to say that I am putting in my past. I am glad I have gotten through this dry spell and I am moving on to what I hope is a more fruitful period for me.
I am glad that I have found this blogger thing, because it has been a great inspiration looking at other peoples artwork and accomplishments. So, thank you for putting your work out there for all to see!!! I wish I had more to show, but it is all slow goings over here in Philly!!

Little by Little

It doesn't look like it, but I keep adding to it. The little circle shapes are taking me forever to fill in! I am still thinking about color and how to define the space. This might just be a starting off point (or sketch) for a different piece. We will see...we will see.
I am sorry about the quality of the photo. I will take a better one when I have more time. This is as good as it is going to get on my schedule.

new old inspiration

An obsession with lines has been showing up in my work lately. These photos are great inspirations of lines and contrast in lines. They are just lots of fun!!
